"Alchemy" a mixed media group show ![]() [sculpture by Diabolus Rex] In December, Vorpal Space will present "Alchemy" a group show featuring new works by Portland artists, including: Carly Bodnar, Lana Gurerra, Troy McCray, Jonas Nash, Robert Pellicer, Jesse Reno, Diabolus Rex, Thomas Rude, and Petr Sorfa. The public opening and reception will be on First Thursday, December 6th from 6pm-10pm. "Alchemy" is a group showing featuring themes and concepts from the achemical paintings of the middle ages, as well as more modern takes on this subject matter. We are excited by the range and diversity of talent who will be participating and contributing their unique visualizations of these classic concepts. Featured artists include: Carly Bodnar. Ms. Bodnar is a dark surrealist painter who is fast making a name for herself in Portland. Ms. Bodnar had a solo show at Vorpal Space in October of 2007. More of her work can be seen at carlybodnar.com Lana Gurerra. Ms. Gurerra is a painter, as well as a hair and makeup artist. She also owns and curates Crude Things Gallery. More of her work can be seen at www.lanaland2.com and www.crudethings.com. Troy John McCray. Mr. McCray's dark and often disturbing digital photo manipulation was shown at Vorpal Space in June of 2007. More of his work can be seen at www.photomanipulator.com. Jonas Nash. Mr. Nash is a prolific Portland painter. His surreal paintings were previously featured at Vorpal Space in July of 2007. More of his work can be seen at www.jonasnash.com. Robert Pelicer. Mr. Pelicer is a recent arrival to Portland, but his demonstration of live painting have already become a regular occurrence at electronic music events. He had a solo show of his paintings at Vorpal Space in September of 2007. More of his work can be seen at www.robpea.com. Jesse Reno. One of Portland's most visible and prolific artists, Mr. Reno has exhibited locally, nationally and internationally since 2001. He is "self taught" and his style is raw, unique and captivating. More of his work can be seen at www.jessereno.com. Diabolus Rex. Diabolus Rex is a painter and sculptor specializing in airbrush and metal fabrication. Rex's works have been internationally exhibited since the 1980s, but his high profile status as a Magister Templi in the Church of Satan has made exhibiting in America difficult due to the conservative alignment of most American galleries. A solo show at Vorpal Space in planned for some time in 2008. More of his work can be seen at www.diabolusrex.com Thomas Rude. Mr. Rude is a mixed media artist, working in media as diverse as hand carved wood, found objects, paper collage, metalwork, clay, and, of course, paint. He is accomplished in the use of all these media, and he has shown extensively, on the East and West coast. More of his work can be seen at www.thomasrude.com. Petr Sorfa. Mr. Sorfa is a photographer and illustrator, and his contribution to the Alice show promises to be a hybrid of these media. He had a solo show of his photography at Vorpal Space in May of 2007. More of his work can be seen at www.milkrobotics.com. ![]() [painting by Jesse Reno] ![]() [painting by Lana Gurerra] ![]() [painting by Lana Gurerra] Please direct any inquiries to david @ vorpalspace.com.
